Since IRIX uses the standard BOOTP protocol, I believed this was a piece of cake. However, when followed the instructions on http://techpubs.sgi.com/ (docs.sun.com equivalent), I found out that not only are the files like "bootptab" not there, but Solaris seems to want to provide the root and install path bootparams, things that SGI PROM doesn't really need, since it lets one specify the IP address as a PROM variable!
So I added the Octane's (a type of SGI workstation) MAC address to /etc/ethers, I removed "-s" from the "in.tftp" line in inetd.conf, I sent the HUP signal to `inetd`, but still no dice. `snoop` on the interface isn't turning much up either, other than that the Octane is sending a BOOTP broadcast. It looks like my Solaris system isn't answering. Boot I can boot an Ultra2 off of it using BOOTP just fine! What did I miss?
