Thanks, Frank. Your project proposal has seconds. I'll contact you
offline to get you set up.

Hi,
I'd like to propose a project for OpenSolaris that'd put development on
the PCFS filesystem driver and the associated utilities "out" onto
OpenSolaris.org. A discussion mailing list, a wiki and a Mercurial
repository for it.
PCFS is a bit like the "ugly duckling" in Solaris Filesystems. There's the
potential to make it evolve into a swan if we can solve issues it has:
- performance is abysmal
- on large filesystems, it's a memory hog
- performance is abysmal
- not optimized for FAT32, not even "auto-work" mkfs on disks
- performance is abysmal
- still no codepage / international character set support
- performance is abysmal
- compatibility with some media is bad (2kB secsize doesn't work)
- performance is abysmal
- carries a lot of 20+ year old cruft
- ah, yeah, and did I say performance is abysmal ?
There are already people from the community who have contributed to PCFS
and I want to explicitly express my thanks for that. But I also want
to go a step further, and get our development workspace out, so that I
don't have to say "believe me we're doing work on it", but so that
everyone can see the changes that are upcoming, comment on them, suggest
improvements, add own code, and of course try it out sooner.
Thoughts/suggestions/<gasp>seconds ?
Thanks,
FrankH.
