Yes, I agree with your take on the issue, and having been involved in such kind 
of system, I am aware that customer info just cannot be shared publically, or 
hell, even with other customers. What I am looking at is making the current 
situation a bit better.

However, on the system I used, there was facility of marking any comment (or 
even part of it) as (roughly speaking) "public", "filer only" or "private". 
Where the said update would be visible to "all", "to filer only" or "internally 
only". 

So may be we can work towards extending the current bug db so that only the 
information of public interest remains public (eg. general workarounds and 
diagnosis etc). 

The implementation is not complicated. Basically each line remains private, 
unless it is prefixed with say "*" or "**"

This is a private by default info (would be displayed in black)

* This info can be seen internally and by filer (would be displayed in green)

** This info can be seen by all (would be displayed in red).
