However I wouldn't assume that it's always better than gcc - it's not. Some time ago we did some tests with our application and gcc actually produced faster binaries than SS10 (or 9) on SPARC. Yes, we even tried -fast, still slower. With other app it actually produced faster application. So at least when it comes to performance I guess it depends on application which compiler would provide faster binaries.
