I run SX:CR on my Sun Blade 2000, compaq laptop, and a vmware instance for my
work laptop. I do agree that there needs to be parity between the platforms. A
good example is how CD audio works fine on x86 with build 54, but not on my
SB2k. It's little things like that which should not be overlooked. I know much
of the development is happening on x86/x64 these days. But SPARC is still
important for developers, sysadmins, and of course production environments.
Seeing how the T1 platform has taken off, I'd be will to say that SPARC is
alive and well.

It would be nice to see a cost effective SPARC based desktop for sysadmins,
developers, etc. As things stand, the Ultra25 and Ultra45 are a bit expensive
which pressures users to buy an x64 box.

Ideally, I'd like to see something like this:

T1 (4 core)
8GB RAM (max)
2 x SAS drives
1 x DVD-RW
3D Nvidia Card (Dual DVI)
2 x USB for keyboard/mouse
4 x USB 2.0 for devices
2 x Firewire
2 x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports
1 x Wireless card
2 x DB9 Serial ports
High quality audio ins and outs
External Power supply

Have this all of this integrated onto a single board (minus the hdd's and dvd).
It should fit into a case about the size of a Mac mini (perhaps a little
bigger, but it should be flatter). It should look like a cross between a mac
mini and an old IPX. So brushed aluminum, purple/blue led's, lit sun logo, etc.
It should be extremely quiet and not over-heat. It should start around $800 and
go up depending on RAM and HDD config.

If Sun were to be serious about SPARC desktops, I think this would be the
killer box.

I did not....

I wanted to first see how many people might be interested.
