Hello,

I have just joined this forum as I was intrigued by OpenSolaris.
There has been a lot of hype about Sun open-sourcing Solaris but where is the
source code for Solaris 10 the official release? As I understand OpenSolaris is
based on the next (under development) version of Solaris (11). Doesn't SUN
intend to make the source code of the official releases available?
Thanks.

It's the other way round - the next version of "Solaris" is based on OpenSolaris.

Sun adds components that are not opensource (yet), though. This changes over time, as more code that's closed-source at the moment either makes it through the legal mills and becomes opensourced, or gets rewritten. But then, as "Sun Solaris" != "OpenSolaris", there's no guarantee that Sun will only use opensourced components for its distribution.

Like you might find Acrobat Reader in RHEL 4, but not in Debian.
Whether you use non-opensource components in your distribution is up to the distributor.
