Nvidia uses one driver for all their modern GPUs, so it's not "a generic driver". It's simply a different driver and hardware architecture, and so far, Nvidia has good results to show with that approach. If the Nvidia driver has loaded on your Solaris system, then you are already using the most optimal driver for your framebuffer. The only thing you might want to tweak is the antialiasing, but you will still get an excellent performance without lifting a finger. Nvidia graphics on Solaris just works.
