Nah, it is the hard liners who insist on VFS. Look at reiser4. It was completely stripped off a lot of stuff and it is still not in the mainline last I checked. Linux could get ZFS without complications of VFS or FUSE if they would just accept such a contribution. But it would probably still need hacks/work arounds.
