Which makes it an accessibility issue for those with less than
perfect eyesight, too.
I would agree that it shouldn't be the default (at least, not for a
hypothetical "Solaris-mode" if, god help us, that's where we're going),
but there's no reason not to have it implemented. Plenty of people like
it and if you're blessed with good-enough eyesight it's a feature that
(like syntax highlighting) adds extra visual feedback to a display.
It would give us a chance to pick better colours than are generally used
as defaults, too. =P
