That may be true on the cheap^H^H^H^H^Hcommodity x86 platform, but on
SPARC, I'm not all that impressed to date; performance, actual functioning of
some allegedly supported devices, removal that requires a lot of manual
action to reinstate the original device support (if they just diff'd
/etc/path_to_inst and
/etc/driver_aliases immediately before and after installation, they'd have a
pretty good
idea of what they'd removed that they'd have to restore), and non-function of
the
compatibility devices tell me that on SPARC, it needs a little more work.
Maybe not all
that much; I can see that within a year they might be all they could be. But
for now,
they're barely usable on SPARC, depending on the specific hardware in question.
I can't speak for SPARC given that a nice, higher-performing (in my
view) system is still prohibitively expensive so I have no experience
with them.
Also, I don't know what version of OSS you are referring to, if you're
speaking of versions prior to the latest 4.x series, then I would
suggest trying it out again. The 4.x series is a large improvement in
my personal experience.
