I think it's actually already moot. I've been using Solaris since 2005
and have never had anything break with my root shell set to bash.


it has actually been a moot ever since RBAC was released in solaris 8,
you can even turn root into a role. i think the problem is that most
new users are not aware of it; i've heard "where is sudo?" way too
many times. which is also weird because the documentation at
docs.sun.com  [0] is excellent.
The technology is already there, maybe what it really needs is a
better interface to the new users ( if you're aiming at ubuntu, they
are used to guis, so give them a gui)
