So what if the code is written by volunteers? We're all volunteers here. I write code on a voluntary basis too, but doesn't give me an excuse to be sloppy, write unportable code, write unclean code, code that doesn't scale, and just generally be an arrogant moron with the "it works for me on my Linux system, you have the source code, fix it yourself" attitude. It's a matter of pride to deliver a quality product that "just works" and doesn't break something else.
