Microsoft is doing what they think they need to do to survive. The computer industry is very fickle, and fortunes can change in an instant. Everybody who i is relevant in the computing industry tries to find ways to drive user lock in. It doesn't matter if you think they are good guys or bad guys. (Google (Gmail), Apple (Itunes), IBM (Mainframe, AIX, IDM), Sun (Sparc ABI, and all of their software, open or closed), Microsoft, Cisco, F5, basically every commercial website on the internet). (Another word for lock-in is stickiness.) It's just matter of who's the better kisser.
