I have compiled samba 3.0.24 from source using ./configure settings found at http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do;jsessionid=c3803fd17c41e83b79ff883b58da?bug_id=6230276 and copied ./source/bin/smbpasswd to /usr/sfw/bin and is now able to assign myself a password (my original one) longer than 8 characters. -- regards Claus When lenity and cruelty play for a kingdom, the gentlest gamester is the soonest winner.
