We've got 2 Sun boxes at work, and the only time we have to shut it down is when there is a power failure and the UPS batteries are almost empty. Actually that's not quite true - the tape drive on the E450 died so it had to go down for 10 minutes once, and we have an A1000 that needs its battery changed every 2 years but isn't hot-swappable for some reason. I think we've rebooted the E450 three times since it was installed in 1999, and one of those was a sys-unconfig when we installed its replacement - a V440.
