The items in this path are /etc/inet/hosts, /etc/inet/ipnodes (should
just be a symlink to hosts), /etc/nsswitch.conf, and nscd.  For the
configuration files, it might be worth looking at them closely to see
if there are any garbage characters in them.

As for testing, I'd start with "getent hosts gatekeeper" and "getent
ipnodes gatekeeper."
