Hi James,

Coolstack includes a package based install of Ruby, Rubygems and Rails (v1.2)
and optimised versions of the AMP stack which will run on OpenSolaris.
You'll find coolstack at: http://cooltools.sunsource.net/coolstack/

Both Blastwave (http://blastwave,org) and Sunfreeware (
http://www.sunfreeware.com) have Ruby builds that will run on Solaris 8
upwards and I've run them on OpenSolaris without any issues. Blastwave has
rubygems prepackaged as well.

The Coolstack gives you the option to install the likes of MySQL as services
which makes it easy to start them at boot time and to manage their
lifecycles. It also includes the Lighttpd Web Server which can be used as a
front end to your Rails applications (either as a proxy or via a FastCGI
module). But you can also use the likes of Mongrel and clustered Mongrel
(installable as Gems) and if you want to be even more adventurous it's
fairly easy to build the likes of NGiNX and use that to run you Rails apps.

HtH
