Thanks for the info.

Actually, most of the notebook ODM vendors have fairly substantial R&D
capability (as an example, one of my former clients has several hundred
software developers spreading across a multiplicity of cities in China). Now
that Solaris is pretty much opened up, the key question is how to get their
attention (in that they don't have to sign NDAs to look at the kernel).

Every notebook ODM vendor in Taiwan (collectively they control almost the
entire notebook market worldwide) is heatedly gearing up to develop their own
labels. I believe Dave is trying to get them interested in Solaris, in
addition to (or "hopefully" in lieu of) the Linux OS, which at the present time
appears to be their only consideration. If Dave succeeds, this can potentially
turn into something very big. I believe everyone should chip in, & this is
what I am trying to do.

I have been a dedicated Solaris (10 & X) desktop user for about one year now
and am deeply convinced that, all things considered, it is the best business
desktop OS. However, selecting an OS is a very big deal, and I don't think any
one will be willing to (or should) place much credence on just one-man year of
user experience.

StarOffice/OpenOffice is a major part of a business desktop OS. Unfortunately
I have not seen much discussion on using SO/OO in the Solaris platform. In
fact, some time ago, one of the (now ceased to exist) CAB members always wanted
to drive me off the forum every time I brought up the subject of StarOffice 8.
