It's not a really a matter of gcc vs SunStudio (at least on x86)
Blastwave packages are built against solaris 8.

The KDE4/Solaris effort is trying to do the same using S10 Update4 as the
base.
If you are using Solaris 10 or later, and want to use KDE you should look at
that KDE4/Solaris effort, IMO.
