the only way to update a solaris express is by upgrading it using a newer solaris express or by live upgrade with a newer solaris express. if you are running solaris in production you should be using solaris 10 with a support contract (they are cheap) unless you really know what you're doing. Security updates are free for solaris 10, you dont need a support contract for that, but it's always useful to have someone else to point to when things break
