In general, be careful with asumptions.....

If you like to be able to get a working "burnproof" on a DVD writer,
you _need_ to have UDMA with all writers I know. The problem is that
you cannot rely on switching on burnproof and just write as slow as you
can using PIO.

Many drives will no longer write DVD-R slower than ~ 6x and this is already 
too fast for PIO. You may have luck with DVD-RW or DVD+RW.
