Hi Tim,

I am one of the guys that tries to manage SWOSUG ( Sweden user group )

One requirement that I have identified ( trough trying to help people
booting opensolaris on osol-help ) is more of an administrative nature. It
is that the present hardware compatability list
on Bigadmin/hcl does not tell people what they need to know.

As PC's are a new model every three months , the users dont need a list of
which, now unavailable, PC-models that worked in the past. What is needed is
a list of which Drivers and Chipssets that is available , so that the user
can select hardware components from that list when assembling a rig to
run OpenSolaris. The best example of this approach that I know of is
FreeBSD:

http://www.freebsd.org/releases/7.0R/hardware.html

Yes this requires more knowledge from the user than simply buying an
appoved PC-model.
But it gives the user the ability to choose hardware much more intelligently
than what is
possible with the present scheme.

Second Requierment that I have is:

Ability for OpenSolaris to support Sun Ray.

Third Requirement :

ATAPI ( DVD ) support for nv-sata driver ( SATA on nvidia Nforce )
must be done .

Fourth Requirement :

A stumbeling stone for new users today is the incompleteness of
/etc/driver-aliases list of PCI-id's . An easier to use reporting process
for additions to /etc/driver-aliases should
be put in place. Lots of problems are being reported because solaris does
not find a perfectly useable chipset.

Fifth Requirement :

Nvidia Nforce MCP78 Support for AMD Phenom with Hypertransport 3
socket AM2+

I have not been able to find any info on this so I assume it is not done
yet.
   I hope I am wrong.

-------------------------

I will probably be to think of more in awhile.

Thanks for giving us this opportunity to input requirements.

Regards

  //Lar s
