I agree - OpenSolaris 2008.05 will give you some of the latest drivers  
that are available, and more likely to work on your laptop.

I think it will depend on whether the wireless card in your laptop is  
compatible with OpenSolaris ie. that an existing software driver makes  
it work. Google seems to indicate that earlier models are Intel 2200BG  
which are supported using the 'iwi' driver. Does your laptop have this  
model of wireless card?
