There was no need to pull all that Voodoo-hoodoo-what-you-don't-dare-do-people.

./runInstaller -ignorePreReq -ignoreSysPrereqs

Actually, for a clean, System V compliant Oracle install:

- Oracle should have been installed in /opt/oracle/
- Oracle data (DB data) should be in /var/opt/oracle/

user "oracle" would remain in /export/home/oracle, but would be almost empty, 
or, depending on the installation concept, would perhaps contain the 
oraInventory.
