As Artem mentioned it will use both, but we decided to include  
cdrecord rather than cdrw by default because we felt that cdrecord  
would probably be more robust (IIRC, at the time of the decision, cdrw  
had a number of pretty bad bugs).

It would be interesting to know how the user experience differs. I  
know the desktop team are looking at Brasero as a possible CD/DVD  
burning tool to add to the desktop.
