But it does. It doesn't have as broad of support as systems that the
SATA controller manufacturers support, or as systems that have been
trying to support arbitrary PC-compatible hardware for more a decade,
but it does have useful SATA support.

Why is buying a new Intel based board not an option? For that matter,
what about a new AMD motherboard, assuming you can find one with a
supported SATA controller?

I think you've shown you can't do it with your exiting
motherboard. That's not enough to conclude that there is _no_ such
option. For instance, I think my home system is decent (2.4GHz Quad
Core 2 cpu, 4 [EMAIL PROTECTED] memory slots, 6 on-board SATA ports, and
gigabit network), and it doesn't need those things.
