S10 (05/08) was installed on the same box with the same IDE 80 GB Seagate drive
with no problems.
I can also dual boot it with F8,openSUSE 1,Ubuntu HH 8.04.1 (all linuxes will
load "ata_piix" driver).
Early Nevada builds < 55 happily ran on this particular HW configuration about
2 years ago.
Actually, it was my 6 years old lab's box, just been given away to kids. AHCI
support went in build 56 as far as i remember and it allowed to work with
Nevada on C2D boards with Intel P965+ICH8R setup to AHCI to be able dual boot
with CentOS 4.4, 4.6. I believe current Nevada builds have different ata_driver
compare with one which worked for early Nevada builds.
The issue i am really concerned about is failure to install SNV_98 in stub
domains introduced in Xen 3.3.0,
where same error comes up:-
ata_command select failed
