It seems that with newer Dell laptops, you need to go into the BIOS and change
the operating mode of the SATA CD-ROm and HDD from IRR (Intel Rapid Restore)
to AHCI - otherwise the drives are not seen from Solaris. Did you do this?

Yes indeed. I changed the SATA Operation in BIOS from IRRT to AHCI and
now the M4400 is working fine.
