I disagree with you on the Cobalt purchase. The problem with that deal was that they should have used it as a way to market Solaris x86. They should have migrated all of the Cobalt functionality to Solaris and then had Solaris SPARC and Solaris Cobalt. However, they let the idiots on Wall Street force them into doing something against their best interest with the whole "so, what is your Linux position? This is the 90's and you simply must have a Linux position if you are going to be a viable company." garbage. So they shelved, tried to kill, Solaris x86 *again* and spent a bunch of money buying a Linux outfit, then let that die on the vine.
