Spencer's original request was regarding a "LiveDVD" release which takes
advantage of the large DVD capacity to deliver more packages locally,
without the need to pull them across the network from a repository. This
topic has been brought up several times (see
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg14229.html
for example).
The main answer is that anyone can produce their own custom LiveDVD
using the Distro Constructor (see [email protected]). But
for the purpose of an official distribution image, it was decided that
fitting software onto a CD suits the needs of most.
Note that currently the size of the image is just a bit larger than a
CD, so a DVD is still required for burning. For the next release it
should be back to CD size again.
Also note that the link below is for purchasing a piece of media
containing the Repository Image. This is not a bootable image, and can
be downloaded and burned from the last link on the previous posting.

Hi,
Been running OpenSolaris for a while now, a point from a peer who's
been
running it for a while well worth noting is the fact that many people
can't keep up with all the packages online, since the repository
images
don't change so often it makes sense to have a DVD release doesn't it?
You can buy a disk: (no endorsement, just the result of a quick search)

You can burn your own if you have suitable media:
