What a mess ;-( Martin, any word on an open source XVR-600/jfb driver?
Sun doesn't own the IP rights to boards from the 3DLabs Wildcat family
and there are restrictions on creating derived implementations. Creative,
assuming they still own the IP, would need to grant permission.
Ok, I see. That wouldn't impede binary distribution (perhaps from the
support repository), provided the suggested Xsun->Xorg shim would be
available? Given that the binary Xsun drivers are already availabe for
download from opensolaris.org, probably not.
INAL, but I don't believe doing a binary only distribution protects against
restrictions on derived implementations. There are legal issues
involved here
that are beyond the scope of the engineers subscribed to this forum.
The easiest way to make this happen is for the current owner of the IP
(Creative?) to allow the Xsun + Sun OpenGL code to be open sourced.
