Hi,

I've noticed that my while my Ultra 20 is a lot faster on graphics rendering,
no surprise with an Nvidia GeForce 8400 card, that with the original
single-core Opteron chip it was slower at multi-tasking than my SB 2000. I had
to upgrade it to a 2.4Ghz dual-core Opteron before it became snappy enough for
me to move off of my SB 2000. Overall I'm happier with my Ultra 20, but do miss
OpenBoot and the ability to use all of my keys on my Sun keyboard. It's a shame
that Sun stopped making SPARC workstations. While the Ultra20 looks like a Mac
Pro wannabe, it's light and cheapish on the inside. It's a huge change in
sturdiness and looks.. still think the light-up Sun logo on the SB2000 is cool
as hell. Hell, I had to change out the fans and the CPU heat sink on my Ultra20
to make it as quiet as my SB2000.

legacy graphic cards

Although I respond to Alan appraently it didn't get posted here. I am comparing
a cluster of Sun Blade 2000's with a cluster of Ultra-24's Even though the
clock speed of the Ultra-24 is nearly 3 times that of the Blade 2000 the run
times for WRF-DA are nearly the same (< 5% difference). Since I run WRF-DA a
minimum of 4 times a day I have a lot of sample times to compare.
