It is a first time I hear that OpenSolaris what only one market segment. Why do
we have OpenSolaris on ARM? Why GNOME is ported to OpenSolaris?Lot of SUN
employees are working on different projects to deploy opens osurcemiddleware
applications so needed for OpenSolaris. If we wait that OpenSolarisbecame
absolute leader in one market segment, then we could forgot othermarket segment
without any doubt - just it will be so late to enter to othermarkets.
I believe that SunOS is the best open source kernel and among the best
kernelsin industry and it deserve to be kernel for many different projects
includingmobile phones, netbooks, etc. For example, we plan to suggest to
Googleto try to implement Chrome OS on SunOS kernel instead of Linux. People
chooseLinux because there are lot of middleware application ported on it and
time-to-matketis significantly shorter than using SunOS. From my perspective
SUN with communityhas to do more with porting all available open source
middleware to SunOS kernel.
I ask for more testfarm resources, more tools for porters, more documentation,
etc.
