The plan has always been that the next version of Solaris will be a snapshot of 
some future, stable version of OpenSolaris, plus (more than likely) a few 
additional drivers etc. that it is not possible to include in OpenSolaris due 
to licensing or redistribution issues.

Only the OpenSolaris developers who work at Sun, are paid by Sun. Contributors 
to the project from outside Sun are not paid by Sun.
