"Solaris Next" is a code name, not branding. It's shorthand for "the next
marketing release of Solaris (i.e. not a Solaris 10 update), which engineers
need a name to refer to it by, but marketing won't let us call it Solaris 11
until marketing & management agree that's the name they want us to use for it."
It's never been intended to be the name on the product when it's released.
Since I've been at Sun, "Solaris Next" has been used for Solaris 8, 9, and 10
at various phases.
Oracle's previous statements have been that they see the value of the Solaris
brand, which is why the rebranding they've done on the web pages is simply to
call it "Oracle Solaris."
