Sunpinyin 2.0 has been ported to Ubuntu, and there are a lot of interests among
Ubuntu developers, see:

http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=238413&start=0

IMHO if Sunpinyin 2.0 for iBus (iBus is schedule to become the default IM for
OpenSolaris) is not fast-tracked, I will be very embarrassed to even mention
the word OpenSolaris.

Understandably, IIIMF is not perfectly suitable for desktop use (I have
discussed this issue extensively in the past), but I am very pleased to see the
improvements that have gone into IIIMF. I am not qualified to comment as to
how good it has become, but so far, I have no problem inputting Chinese
characters using IIIMF/OpenSolaris.

Compared to other Linux distros, the IIIMF in OpenSolaris also comes with an
on-screen keyboard. For users who have to use a non-US keyboard (e.g., the
bopomofo keyboard for traditional Chinese speakers), this is really handy. It
is sad that this advantage was never widely advertised.

As to the Sunpinyin input method engine, as I mentioned in a separate thread:

http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=117802&tstart=0

to input the Chinese characters “新年恭喜” (Happy New Year), after the first time,
I only have to type “xngx”, and the words “新年恭喜” will come out for me to
select. For those such as myself who view typing Chinese characters as worse
than going thru a root canal, this is a life-saver.

I also appreciate the fact that i18n/g11n developers decided not to use iBus as
the default IM for OpenSolaris 2010.03. It is simply not stable, to the point
that it is unusable (at least for chewing users). Every time I installed a
Ubuntu 10.04 machine, I had to install the SCIM packages and switch the default
input method from iBus.
