Well we have heard from one of the OGB members about forking this project to save it from

protect what has been done so far?
A full fork can only be made if the internationalisation parts of libc
are released as open source. Either we have to call the TOG (The Open
Group) for source license, wait that Roland Mainz releases his version
or find a suitable substitute.
And then forking the hell outta here.
Umm..
#1 Roland is only handling the cli bits (Which with his help I replaced
a long time ago in osunix)
#2 TOG doesn't own the code in question. IBM is afaik the copyright
holder on the wide character things you're referencing in libc. TOS
only handles the UNIX tm and certification. (I know I've talked with
them quite a bit) As others have talked about the Citrus wide character
support could be a relatively painless way to replace those as well.
Anyway.. I'm sure you could get things to boot with a C LOCALE if you're
really in a hurry.
OSUNIX is entirely open source with the exception of libc and compiler.
(icedtea.. etc.. all bootstrapped from ground up) As I've mentioned
elsewhere I'm not really interested in a "fork", but my work could be
leveraged as a good start to anyone wanting to do it.
#osunix - irc.freenode.net
I've been honestly inactive with osunix as a general project, but happy
to help tackle these last two things as time permits. For the record I
think a "fork" is a terrible idea and I'd strongly encourage any
positive contributions also be sent upstream.
