However, you can't install OpenSolaris onto a root pool that is formatted as UFS. OpenSolaris *requires* a root pool based on zfs for various things to work properly (beadm, ips, etc). If you want to create some data storage area using UFS (why on earth you'd want to instead of using ZFS I can't imagine but different strokes for different folks), you could do that post-install. Or just use Solaris 10 which still allows root pools based on UFS. To the OP: Really though, I'd just learn ZFS. It's not that difficult and is more than worth the time to learn it for the added benefits over UFS.
