I wouldn't call it killing. It's just making it less publicly open / newbie 
inviting. There are successful closed projects around there. May be Sun 
envisioned OpenSolaris as an open source project (did they?). Oracle seems not 
to. It has some agenda, and it follows it thoroughly. It's just not what many 
expected I guess.
