Ugh, I am not sure people are missing the point here. In fact, it's the point that illumos is an unburdened O/N, and O/N only. You need a distro built upon it to actually benefit from illumos, plus things like X Windows stack (FOX gate?,) GNOME desktop or whatever desktop environment of choice by distro builder.
Where is that distro? One cannot count on Indiana to switch, because if Oracle were to do it, it would be easier just resume /dev release after all. StormOS site hasn't been updated for several months I think. It is the same reason, I think, why indiana is created, and as its predecessor, SXCE, for nevada code base. As matter of fact, only when a distro using illumos emerges, current stagnancy can be improved. > I think people are missing the point here.
