BTW the best way to try Solaris10u9 is to run it as an Oracle VirtualBox guest,
which can also be run from an external USB disk. (Doing this also conveniently
allows "multiboot" with SchilliX, Milax, etc., on the same machine.)

My mother has been running Solaris 10, including this newest update 9, on her
IBM ThinkPad notebook, which was given to her as her 90th birthday present.
(If she has no problem running a Solaris desktop, I doubt anyone should.) :-)

However, while her Solaris-powered ThinkPad is running as reliably as ever, the
LCD screen has become kind of faded. I am thinking about getting her a new
Window 7 laptop with an LED screen, and install S10u9 as a VBox guest (she has
no way of running a Windows machine even though Windows 7 has shown drastic
improvements over the idiotic Vista). This way she can also quickly suspend
her machine by closing the lid without having to spend 2+ minutes every time
waiting for Solaris to boot.

Solaris 10u9 runs surprisingly smoothly as a VBox guest. However, there is no
sound. This is no problem for my mother because she (almost) couldn't hear
anything anyway. But the lack of audio could be a blemish for this otherwise
great system.
