Hi,

Well OpenSolaris 2009.06 has production "pay-for" support. I would be surprised 
if there isn't an upgrade path to Solaris 11 Express which I think Oracle will 
also provide support for. So for production environments, it's still an 
option.. 
a bleeding edge option. The major issue I see right now is that even with the 
other OpenSolaris based distros and Illumos, there is still the issue of 
getting 
fixes or updates in a production setting. 


At the end of the day, companies that use Linux in production pay Red Hat and 
Novell for support and it's not all that different from paying a support 
contract with Sun Oracle.

What about those who are using OpenSolaris for a production server? I think 
running OS 2009.06 is an option, at least while it does not need any serious 
security patches (not counting OpenIndiana yet, and *not* considering switching 
to Linux).
