Hi, Well OpenSolaris 2009.06 has production "pay-for" support. I would be surprised if there isn't an upgrade path to Solaris 11 Express which I think Oracle will also provide support for. So for production environments, it's still an option.. a bleeding edge option. The major issue I see right now is that even with the other OpenSolaris based distros and Illumos, there is still the issue of getting fixes or updates in a production setting.
At the end of the day, companies that use Linux in production pay Red Hat and Novell for support and it's not all that different from paying a support contract with Sun Oracle. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Octave J. I think running OS 2009.06 is an option, at least while it does not need any serious security patches (not counting OpenIndiana yet, and *not* considering switching to Linux). -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
