I would also recommend a linux live cd.
If nothing else an Ubuntu live cd comes in very handy for such recovery
operations, it reads/writes/mounts/ all file systems except UFS and ZFS (and
maybe some other older UNIX ones). The partitioning tool is an excellent way to
move, resize, add and format partitions. OpenSolaris should and probably will
adopt some of these features (at least mounting NTFS) in the future but right
now a linux live CD is more mature for these tasks.
