Does it perhaps use a S-ATA hdd, connected to an Intel ICH AHCI S-ATA controller? In this case you either have to change the S-ATA controller's BIOS setup configuration to emulate a standard legacy P-ATA IDE controller, or use OpenSolaris, which does have the S-ATA AHCI disk driver...
