Hi,

I want to install OpenSolaris 2009.06 on Microsoft 2008 with Hyper-V.

As some of you know the Hypervisor had some issues with the legacy network
card. These problems have been fixed with SP2 and it was running perfectly.

But now it seems that something weird is going on. My previous installation of
OpenSolaris 2008.11 is now unable to start the gui. The screen remains white
and nothing more happens.

Without any further investigation I decided to jump right on OpenSolaris
2009.06 and to reinstall the OS. Now the installer is also refusing to start
the gui - even in vesa mode - and I think this is related to the same problem.

I have heard that the emulated graphic card is some S3 compatible device. This
unusual choice by Microsoft caused some trouble to Linux distros as well. Still
it has been running before so something must have been changed or fixed now.

This is really a setback since I was very pleased that the network card problem
has been fixed by Microsoft.

How can I convince Microsoft to further investigate this issue? Is there some
cooperation between Sun and Microsoft to ensure compatibility between
Hypervisor and OpenSolaris? Is there some interest on your site to address or
circumvent the problem?

Are there some tests / commands I could execute from the shell to refine the
analysis?

Thanks,
Holger Schmeken
