Hi,

Two things:

1- Where should I be putting newly downloaded programs? So far I've just been
putting them in a folder called "programs" in my home folder. Is there a
standard place, similar to "Program Files" in windows?

2- I have downloaded the latest version of firefox and I can run it directly
from the unzipped folder. For the old one, there is a link in the usr/bin
directory pointing towards a directory in usr/lib/firefox. To "uninstall" the
old one, can I just delete that directory and update the link to point towards
my new one, or is it more complicated than that? What I'm getting at, is there
something special you have to do when unistalling programs because of other
registry entries or whatever (like Windows), or can you just delete them (like
Mac OS X)?

Thanks for helping out a fumbling novice. :-)
