My OS X system (AppleTV really) sends my authentication as HOSTNAME\Username to
the Open Solaris (snv 111b, I had the same problem with 86 though as well) SMB
server and the SMB server rejects it saying NO_SUCH_USER. I am able to connect
to this box via OS X's built in smb client( "Connect to server..." in finder),
and with WinXP and Vista just fine. The only problem is using mount_smbfs from
the command line on the AppleTV.

Example:
Aug 24 01:36:56 KRAMER smbd[1407]: [ID 653746 daemon.notice]
SmbLogon[WORKGROUP\MEDIA]: NO_SUCH_USER

A while back I found someone by the name of "Wyllys" asking the following,
which was never answered and could perhaps help with my problem:

How does one tell SMBD how to map my WinXP names to a local name? It is my
understanding that the idmapd and idmap utility are only useful for AD Domains.
I am not running a domain, this is just a simple workgroup configuration. All
of the documentation currently available talks only about sharing in an AD
Domain, we need something to help people in workgroup mode (most small home
networks, for example).
