Hi all,
I can not install OpenSolaris 2008.5, 2008-5-1 or 2008.11-b98, due to a very
weird bug in the ata driver. I use Dell PowerEdge SC1435 with 4-core AMD
Opteron, 12Gb RAM and 2x1.5T SATAII 7200rpm disks . I thought that would be
painless process (it is with MS Vista and Ubuntu), but after the initial
messages OpenSolaris 2008.5 seems to spin in cycle spiting:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: /pci at 0,9/pci1166,36 at 1/pci-ide at e/ide at 1/cmdk at 0,0 (ata3):
timeout: abort device, target=0 lun=0
....

WARNING: /pci at 0,9/pci1166,36 at 1/pci-ide at e/ide at 1/cmdk at 0,0 (Disk1):
Error for command 'read sector' Error Level: Informational
Sense Key: aborted command
Vendor 'Gen-ATA' error code: 0x3
----------------------------------------------------------

It sometimes boot (after lost of time) but then the installation (in step 2)
does not recognize the 2 disks and the Device Driver Utility reports:
 Storage:
Broadcom BCM5785[HT1000] SATA IDE
Broadcom BCM5785[HT1000] SATA (PATA/IDE Mode), it says the driver is 'bge'

I read all I could about similar issues in forums and bug databases - seems
like a lot of people have the same pains. Here is what DOES NOT HELP:

1)http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4078/ggmsj?l=ru&a=view
2)http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6586621
3)setting at boot time -Bata-dma-enabled=0,disable-cpudrv=true

Even 2008.11-b98 can not install due to the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any help! Hoping for a quick resolution before I give up
and switch to Ubuntu....
