The spec for the board here:
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/m3n78pro/6.htm says "6 xSATA 3 Gb/s
ports (Use SATA1-4 for IDE mode.) " which would explain why only the first 4
drives are seen in IDE mode.

Don't go near RAID mode - it is basically software RAID, except that instead of
the OS handling the RAID it is all done by a driver. When the system boots the
controller's own BIOS does the RAID, then when you load Windows the nVidia
supplied driver takes over. Linux distros tend to use dmraid. Unfortunately
there is currently no equivalent on OpenSolaris (yet). The bottom line is -
don't use RAID mode if OpenSolaris needs to access those disks.

Are all the hard disks SATA-2 - i.e. 3Gbps and the DVD drive SATA-1 - i.e.
1.5Gbps? Basically you want to put all of the SATA-2 drives first, then any
SATA-1 drives last to minimise the potential for problems under OpenSolaris.

Which build of OpenSolaris are you using?

Cheers

Andrew.
