I am in the same situation. SXCE was the only distribution that I could get
installed, with AHCI checked in BIOS, and create a zpool. I was able to achieve
burst speeds of 210 MB/s, using RAIDZ1, with files under 3 GB and after a
period of time transferring the file, or if the file was over 3 GB, the
throughput would drop to a sustained 60 MB/s. However, other parts of SXCE were
not working properly so I decided to abandon that. I am also trying to install
OpenSolaris 2008.11 but the install hangs when AHCI is checked in the BIOS.
Everything will install just fine when IDE is checked, but with a successful
install under this setting my transfer speeds were horrible. I might try it
again just to make sure that occurrence was not random. I am holding out for
some sort of fix for all this.
